Ms G’s

Cafe

Aim

Ms G’s was an independent project undertaken during my final year at Griffith University. The project aimed to develop my technical documentation skills, confidence in the National Construction Code, and expand my knowledge of the Australian Standards. This was achieved through the fictional hospitality fit-out of a new café located on campus. A strong focus on branding and customer experience was required to enhance the concept and design, along with an emphasis on sustainable design.

Modern cafe interior with a tiled bar counter, white barstools, and large glass door leading outside. Warm lighting, a plant, and menu boards behind the counter.

Process

Ms G’s explored the necessary steps to conduct an effective site analysis and develop an accurate project feasibility report. This formed the foundation for creating a well-considered project proposal aligned with the client’s brief. The process allowed me to learn from my talented tutor and industry-leading professionals about the steps involved in a hospitality-related project from start to finish, including joinery, lighting, spatial layouts, and fixtures and fittings. This comprehensive process included the following tasks:

Project Feasibility Report

Site Analysis

Research, Investigation & Test-Fit Planning

Concept Client Presentation

Design Respons Presentation

Outcome

Ms G’s was an educational experience that embedded crucial pieces of knowledge into my mind, primarily through interactions with my experienced tutors and discussions with industry professionals, such as lighting architects. The outcome was a concept and technical documentation package that I am extremely proud of. The concept and design are engaging and met the client’s brief perfectly. The documentation package was effectively put together, and the feedback provided gave me opportunities to make small improvements to ensure the highest standards can continue to be achieved time and time again.
