Nest was the name I gave to a renovation project for a charming home nestled in the Gold Coast hinterland. During my internship at Studio Yugen, I worked with the team and contributed to the documentation process, focusing on refining the initial technical documentation. My role involved observing client feedback and making adjustments to the floor plan to better align with their vision, ensuring an improved spatial flow and functionality within the home.
Aim
Nest
Process
The Nest project had already begun when I joined the team, and most of the initial design concepts and schematic design development had already been completed. Nest was now up to the stage of initial documentation. The team at Studio Yugen had put together the initial floor plan, However during client discussions there were changes to be made to accommodate the decisions made. I was instructed to edit the existing floor plan and develop the corresponding elevations to accommodate for the layout changes to the following:
Kitchen
Bulter
Dining
Laundry
Outcome
The Nest project was a thrill to be a part of. It was one of my first introductions to a real-world project with actual clients, and while this sometimes made tasks feel stressful, I recognised that stress is an integral part of the learning experience. Through Nest, I gained valuable insight into the pressures and demands of real-world projects, which in turn allowed me to develop strong stress and time management skills. Additionally, my competency in technical documentation improved significantly, as did my teamwork and communication skills, as I worked alongside and was mentored by the incredible team at Studio Yugen.
